Bengaluru’s Civic Body Nears Property Tax Collection Goal for FY25

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has reported a significant achievement in its property tax collection for the fiscal year 2024-25. The civic body collected ₹4,930 crore, reaching 95% of its target of ₹5,210 crore.

Zone-wise Performance Highlights:

  • Yelahanka: Surpassed its target by collecting ₹465 crore against a goal of ₹445 crore, achieving 104%.

  • Mahadevapura: Collected ₹1,310.5 crore, slightly exceeding its target of ₹1,309 crore.

  • South Zone: Achieved 95% of its target with ₹734 crore collected against ₹770 crore.

  • Bommanahalli: Underperformed, collecting ₹490 crore, which is 84% of its ₹585 crore target.

  • RR Nagar: Collected ₹382 crore, meeting 88% of its ₹434 crore target.

The majority of the revenue came from Mahadevapura, East, and South zones, collectively contributing over 60% of the total collection. These areas are recognized as economic hubs with higher tax bases and better compliance rates.

BBMP’s Special Commissioner (Revenue), Munish Moudgil, attributed this success to several strategic initiatives, including a one-time settlement scheme, systematic IT-based follow-ups on arrears and current dues, issuance of standard operating procedures for arrear recovery, and direct house-to-house follow-ups. He expressed confidence that the civic body would surpass ₹6,000 crore in collections for the fiscal year 2025-26 without increasing property tax rates, which have remained unchanged since 2016.
